Innovation Team for Modern Rail Transport System Dynamics

 

The Innovation Team for Modern Rail Transport System Dynamics is a prominent interdisciplinary research team in the field of rail way science and technology, focusing on studies of the dynamic safety of the wheel-rail system. It connects several first-level disciplines, including transportation engineering, mechanical engineering and civil engineering, and covers research topics such as the vehicle system dynamics, track structure and dynamics, bridge vibration, subgrade engineering, and railway inspection technology. Led by Academician Zhai Wanming, the team consists of 25 members, including 10 core members, 8 second-tier members and 7 young outstanding members, among whom 18 hold doctoral degrees and 10 are doctoral supervisors. All of the team members actively work at the cutting edge of research. The team is formed naturally from the research ability based on the State Key Laboratory of Traction Power. Facing to the demands for dynamic performance and running safety of the railways with higher speed and heavier axle load, the team carries out research on train-track-bridge interaction mechanism and the operation safety zone of heavy haul and high-speed railways.

The Innovative Research Team of National Natural Science Foundation of China


Key Scientific Technology for Safe Operation of High-Speed Rail Vehicles

 

Aiming to meet the needs from China’s rail transportation development, the Innovative Research Team channels resources of the State Key Laboratory of Traction Power, catches up with cutting-edging development in relevant disciplines, and constantly works on the key scientific and engineering problems of the speeding up of trains and safe operation of high speed railways, trying to establish a system, which takes vehicle dynamics, tribology and fatigue into consideration, for rail vehicle research and application.

The Innovative Research Team is composed of a group of young and middle-aged experts including 4 winners of the “National Science Funds for Distinguished Young Scholars”, 4 Distinguished Professors of the “Cheung Kong Scholars” Program of China and 4 winners of the One Hundred National Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation. The team members are specialized in their own disciplines, excellent in teamwork, active in innovation. The team obtained financial support for a consecutive period in 2008 and passed the assessment from National Natural Science Foundation of China in 2011. The team has been awarded two First Prizes and two Second Prizes of National Scientific and Technological Progress Award, and one Second Prize of the National Natural Science Award.


 



Innovation Team of the Ministry of Education


Modern Rail Vehicle and Relevant Technologies Research Team

 

The Innovation Team is based on the State Key Laboratory of Traction Power and focuses its research area on modern rail vehicles and relevant technologies, such as the fundamental research and application study on design theory, dynamics, strength and reliability. The team has special interest in five research topics, which are the interaction between the vehicle and the track and bridge, design of new-type rail vehicle, derailment mechanism and safety, rail vehicle fatigue reliability, and key technologies of magnetic levitation vehicle. In its inception phase, the team rallied nearly 20 outstanding scholars, including 3 Distinguished Professors of the “Cheung Kong Scholars” Program of China, 3 scholars of the Ministry of Education’s “Special Support Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University” (NCET), and 7 provincial level young and mid-age specialists with outstanding contributions and 3 winners of the One Hundred National Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation. In recent years, the team has won numerous awards, including one First Prize of the National Scientific and Technological Progress and four First Prizes at provincial and ministerial level.

Innovation Team of the Ministry of Education


Theory and Technology for High-Speed Wheel-Rail System

 

Based on the research platform of State Key Laboratory of Traction Power, the Innovation Team works on the damage mechanism and control technology for high-speed wheel-rail system and carries out research on composite fretting damage mechanism and control technology, the matching relationship between the fatigue and damage mechanism and the materials, the wear mechanism, the grinding technology and safe and economic profile design for high-speed wheel-rail system. For the high-speed wheel-rail noise, the team performs in-depth research on the friction-induced noise mechanism, the noise radiation mechanism and environmental protection technologies. For the adhesion mechanism, security domain and control technology of high-speed wheel-rail system, the team conducts research on the vibration and application security of the ballastless track structure of high-speed railway, the adhesion mechanism, velocity limit and control, and the derailment and security domain for high-speed wheel-rail system.

The team consists of a group of prominent experts, including 1 winner of the National Science Funds for Distinguished Young Scholars, 4 scholars of the Ministry of Education’s “Special Support Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University” (NCET), 6 young and mid-age specialists with outstanding contributions at the provincial and ministerial level or above, and 2 winners of the One Hundred National Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation. In recognition of their remarkable achievements, the team has been awarded one First Prize of the National Scientific and Technological Progress Award (2005), one Second Prize of the National Natural Science Award (2006), one Second Prize of the National Scientific and Technological Progress Award (2009) and three First Prizes of the Scientific and Technological Progress Award at the provincial and ministerial level.
